EDITING
THE THINGS YOU LEFT BEHIND
This being my final graduate film, you'll also find it in the 'Directing' section, it being a passion project I took all the way from pre-production through to the final edit. After the original editor dropped out of the project after completing a couple of rough cuts, I took over post-production on it and completed several edits, doing small test screenings with my lecturers to iron out various flaws and tighten the edit in general. Overall, while there are still things about the film that could be improved or smoothed out, I'm very proud of the film and I believe it demonstrates my ability to balance emotional tones between scenes and control the pace with an edit.
A TREASURE TROVE
Also to be found on the 'Videography' section of this site, this was a full demo of a book created by a graphic design artist named Tanya Jain. It was designed to be between 01:30 mins and 02:00 mins to be used for both her final degree submission and for social media sites such as Instagram and TikTok. I shot this on the Canon R5C primarily on sticks, and edited and graded it myself over the space of a week. The artist's work can be viewed on Instagram @tanyajainwork
Instagram Version
TikTok & YouTube Shorts Cut
A slightly shorter version running at around 40 seconds, this cut was designed to be used on platforms such as Instagram, where longer reels and videos are more commonplace than on sites such as TikTok. This edit shows off my ability to cater for a modern audience's attention span with a fast pace to the cuts, while also showing off the essential elements of the product the video is promoting.
This final edit is even shorter still at a little under 20 seconds, being perfect for platforms such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts. This edit shows off the amount of coverage I capture on a shoot, as it features almost entirely different footage compared to the other two edits, as well as displaying my ability to pick a standout element of a product and show it off in an engaging and brief video. As with both the other clips, I also edited and graded this one.
RUNNING: WHY DO PEOPLE DO IT?
This short documentary was my final project in my second year of university, and was another one I took from pre-production through to the final edit. Being a documentary, it presented very different challenges compared to the rest of my work. For example, I had to cut down around 45 minutes worth of interview footage into two interviews of 4 minutes each in order to make the 10 minute time limit, which forced me to be brutal and select the absolute most essential clips for maximum audience engagement.
Tears, Sweat and Hunger
A short mockumentary I edited and directed as my end of year project for the first year of my filmmaking degree. While it is a little rough around the edges, it does demonstrate my ability to edit a lot of footage into a short, snappy edit, as I had nearly an hour's worth of footage to cut down to a sub-5 mins video. Furthermore, it shows that I understand when to let a shot breathe and when to cut early for maximum emotional or comedic impact.
Social Media Reel for 'Kit & Kaboodal'
This is a short video designed for social media usage which I edited as a trial task for a job application for women's clothing company 'Kit & Kaboodal'. While I ultimately didn't get the job, I'm still proud of the end result and feel it shows my skill and speed when it comes to turning edits around in a short space of time, as I edited this together, including graphics and titles, in just one day.
